Safeguarding
Music as Therapy International believes strongly that the welfare of the children, young people and adults at risk we encounter through our work is the responsibility of everyone who works for the charity, regardless of their role.
The charity has a detailed policy which explains the ways we strive to ensure the welfare and protection of children, young people and adults at risk with whom Music as Therapy International works directly and the processes we follow to ensure we all act appropriately in response to any concern around abuse.
In practice, delivery of our projects means working closely with the local care setting in line with their safeguarding policy and guidance if ever we have concerns about the welfare of any child, young person or adult at risk we encounter.
However, some of our projects take us to countries where safeguarding policies are not always in place and local practice may not be congruent with UK standards and procedures. This does not absolve us of our responsibilities regarding the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk with whom we work directly but does mean we need to be sensitive to the local context.
Our Policy details both the approach we take in situations where there are safeguarding policies in place and the approach we take in places where there are not.
